The blessings of Lord Krishna and the benedictions of H.H. 108 Goswami Shri. Mathureshwarji Maharajshri had inspired the families of Shri Jamuna Doss and Shri. Purushotam Doss renowned Philanthropists to establish an educational institution for higher education in Chennai. They together with the kind - hearted Maheswaris and Agarwals of Rajasthan and Gujarat founded Shri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha in the year 1963, with the sole purpose of imparting value based education for all and for the linguistic minorities in particular. The founding of the College was in the year 1964. His Holiness 108 Goswami Shri Maharajshri Mathureshwarji laid the foundation stone for the building on 13th November 1963 at "Gokul Bagh". In the year of its incep-tion, the College offered a degree course in Mathematics along with Pre-University Courses. The very next year degree courses in Physics and Economics were introduced. The philanthropic zeal coupled with single-minded dedication evinced by the Management for the purpose of advancing knowledge and disseminating it, has helped the college emerge as one of the outstanding institutions of higher learning in Chennai. The history of the college is marked by the presence of illustrious principals ably assisted by dedicated teachers. Our students through their exemplary prowess have won laurels and accolades that have built the college to be what it is now. Today, it has grown to be one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the state. The College now has 7 UG and 6 PG (Aided), 12 UG and 11 PG (Self-Supporting) programmes. Research Programmes such as M.Phil, (Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Mathematics ) and Ph.D. (Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Computers) has become part of the academic curriculum.
The College is situated in a salubrious atmosphere, well within the city limits. The shrines of Goddess Vidya Lakshmi, Lord Vidya Ganapathy and Goddess Saraswathi, spread an aura of the rich heritage. Lord Krishna, the presiding deity of the College, enshrined in the campus is enthroned in our minds and hearts. The Campus spread over 25 acres of land spacious and green provides an ambience conducive for higher learning.
In the past four decades the college has seen tremendous growth in its infrastructure. Through its complete and adequate infrastructure in the form of excellent laboratories and state of art equipments, it facilitates innovative methods of instruction and learning keeping with the changing trends in education.
An Auditorium was built in the honour of the former principal of the college, Prof. S.R. Govindarajan known as the "SRG Auditorium". The College in collaboration with the Lions Club International, District 324 A - 1 has brought into reality the massive structure "Edifice for Service". This houses a blood bank, book bank, centers for first-aid and life saving drugs, Vivekananda diagnostic center and an Air-conditioned state ofart auditorium which has a seating capacity of 550. The various association activities are held in the Air-conditioned auditorium in M.C.A. Block, which has a seating capacity of 250.
The outstanding performance of our students in both curricular and co-curricular activities makes our college stand as an epitome of excellence in Higher Education. Our students have been University Rank Holders. The college results through the years bear testimony to the high standard of education provided by the institution. The Year 2004-2005 saw the culmination of the achievements made, with the college being accredited with 'A' Grade by the NAAC Committee. We take pride in professing that our Alumni hold positions of prominence in society.
The College adopt the guidelines stipulated by the government in its admission procedure.
The College has been conferred the status of "AUTONOMY" by the UGC and endorsed by the University of Madras from the academic year 2009 - 2010. Consequently students admitted to various UG, PG and M.Phil courses during the academic year 2009 - 2010 will come under Autonomous pattern. The current batch of IInd Year & IIIrd Year UG Students and IInd Year PG Students will continue under affliated mode.
